The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all aspects of Wisconsin life including mental and physical health, how we use our health care services and the economics of health care. As Wisconsin continues its economic recovery and to re-establish health care services, it is important to use objective information to quantify the effect of COVID-19 at various points in this recovery so that resources can be allocated where additional efforts are needed most.

The Wisconsin Health Information Organization (WHIO) is proud to provide this InfoByte, Special Edition: The Effect of COVID-19 in Wisconsin. This publication includes information on the cost of a hospitalization for a patient with COVID-19, as well as the health care that was provided for disease prevention, chronic conditions, and mental health.  We encourage state leaders and others to use this information to continue to make Wisconsin a healthy state to live and work in.

The WHIO is Wisconsin’s All-Payer Claims Data organization dedicated to better health, health care and health care value in Wisconsin. The WHIO includes data on about 4.9 million insured lives voluntarily contributed by WI Insurers, employers, and the Medicaid program.
