Why use the WHIO’s information system?
Everyone wants accessible, high-quality health care at an affordable price. But, how do we know that the health care Wisconsinites are receiving is a good value? By using objective information, health care leaders can understand how Wisconsin’s health care system is performing and make better decisions.
The WHIO is the largest information system about health care in Wisconsin and is used by:
- Policymakers and state agencies to determine if state-funded programs are getting their intended results and to direct resources to where they are needed the most;
- Public health to monitor diseases and determine the impact a disease is having on the health of Wisconsinites;
- Provider organizations to determine where new services may be needed and to identify where care improvement activities should occur;
- Health care purchasers to reward high quality, lower-cost providers and educate consumers about higher-value care; and
- Researchers to determine the effectiveness of care practices.
